Mise en scene

Mise en scene is a French expression which is used to explain the various design aspects within a film. When applied to the cinema, mise-en-scène refers to everything that appears before the camera and its arrangement, composition, sets, costumes, actors and lighting. Mise-en-scène also includes the positioning and movement of actors on the set, which is called blocking. In modern filmwork, these are all the areas overseen by the director.
It is important because it sets up the content and feel of the film. Uses of dark screen and aloof acting are conventions of horror whereas bright direct lighting and vivid colours are conventions of romantic films.
The descent is a horror film that uses dark and red filters to make it scarier.

Importance of narrative on film and film marketing

Narrative is completely vital to films. It is the content of the film and sets the pace and tempo of a film. Its very important to keep an even narrative in films, especially low budget ones as they do not have the CGI spectacle of the Hollywood film industry. They also are dictated by narrative, many blockbusters are uneven and in the final third the plot unfolds too quickly and all the build up of the film ends abruptly.

The importance of narrative in the marketing is also vital, the viral videos must not reveal too much of the plot but enough to display the genre iconography toward the target market.

Short film festival

This is a short film festival which focus' on comedy shorts instead of the more conventional dramatic ones.
Short film festivals are set up for amateur film makers to display their work in hope of becoming a professional film director or for the fun of having an audience for your work.
The people who really take notice of short films are movie studios. The studios have people there looking at the films and looking for new directors and talent and a short film is a good way to get noticed on a minuscule budget.
